JSON to YAML
Convert JSON to YAML and YAML back to JSON locally with validation, formatting, copy, and download. Powered by js-yaml and runs fully in your browser.
🔒 Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploadedWhat JSON to YAML does
JSON to YAML converts strict JSON into readable, indentation-based YAML and converts YAML back into formatted JSON. The JSON to YAML direction parses your input with the native JSON parser, then serializes it with js-yaml so objects become nested mappings, arrays become block sequences, and scalar values lose their surrounding braces and most quotes. The YAML to JSON direction parses YAML and emits JSON with two-space indentation. Validation errors are reported immediately, which helps catch trailing commas, missing quotes, inconsistent indentation, and accidental tabs before you copy a broken result.
This is handy when moving configuration between systems that prefer different formats: turning a compact JSON config block into a friendlier YAML file for a CI pipeline, a Kubernetes manifest, or a static site settings file, or flattening a YAML sample back into JSON for an API request or a fixture. Both source and output stay visible so small transformations are easy to verify, and the conversion does not apply hidden defaults or reorder data beyond what the serializer requires.
Private browser-based workflow
All processing happens inside your browser with client-side JavaScript. The tool does not upload snippets, configuration values, identifiers, tokens, or copied examples to a server, and it does not require an account. That local-only model matters for developer utilities because the content pasted into them often looks like real application data: API responses, deployment manifests, environment-shaped samples, and values copied from production debugging sessions. Keeping the transformation local reduces risk and keeps the interaction fast because there is no network round trip.
The interface is intentionally compact so you can paste input, choose a direction, inspect the output, copy it, and return to your editor. Results should still be reviewed before being committed, shared publicly, or used in a production workflow. Browser tools are excellent for quick inspection and preparation, but they cannot understand every project convention, data classification rule, or application-specific validation requirement.
Practical tips
YAML is a superset of JSON conceptually but a smaller practical data model when you stick to ordinary objects, arrays, strings, numbers, booleans, and null, which round-trip cleanly. Be cautious with values that YAML may interpret specially: bare words like yes, no, on, and off can become booleans, and unquoted strings that look like numbers or dates may change type, so quote them when the exact text matters. When converting configuration for production, validate the final file with the tool that will consume it, and remove any secrets from your input before copying examples elsewhere even though this page keeps the conversion local.
